To better integrate both state and non-state actors from CARICOM countries, which is a key priority presented in the Strategic Plan 2017-2021 and the Strategic Plan 2023-2027, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) seeks to develop strong institutional partnerships in the sub-region to increase CARICOM participation in the Inter-American Human Rights System. This agenda aims to promote democracy and good governance, by strengthening State institutions and public policies and ensuring a rights-based capacity building program for State and non-state actors to address human rights issues.
In this regard, for better engagement with the Caribbean States, the IACHR has tailored this website, which consolidates all available information of interest to the Region and provides specific knowledge to navigate the mechanisms of the Inter-American system

The IACHR conducted a technical cooperation, promotional, and monitoring visit to Belize over the period October 15–18. The delegation was led by Commissioner José Caballero, the IACHR’s Second Vice President and country rapporteur for Belize.
The visit focused on promoting the inter-American human rights system and its technical cooperation and capacity building mechanisms; strengthening the IACHR’s relations with Belize to increase collaboration in the field of human rights; and holding meetings to gather information about State progress in Case 12,053, regarding Maya indigenous communities in Toledo.

The IACHR delegation led by Commissioner Gloria Monique de Mees—country rapporteur for Barbados and IACHR Rapporteur on the Rights of Older Persons and on the Rights of Persons of African Descent—conducted a working visit to Barbados. The visit focused on enhancing IACHR collaboration with State and non-state actors and regional organizations and on strengthening institutions through technical cooperation and capacity building regarding the inter-American human rights system and its mechanisms, as well as on promoting the use of inter-American human rights instruments.
