Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Persons

Regarding the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and intersex persons, the Commission highlights the intensification of violence, in addition to the persistence of the pathologizing of these persons, as well as the so-called "conversion therapies," and the medical violence against intersex persons. LGBTI persons continue facing difficulties in access to justice and threats to their rights, especially regressive measures in relation to gender identity and expression. In addition, discrimination continues exposing LGBTI persons to situations of poverty and exclusion. In that context, the strategy of the Rapporteurship on the Rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Persons will focused on:

1. responding to violence based on prejudice and discrimination, with special attention to the situation of impunity in such cases;
2. promoting compliance with the duties associated with the right to gender identity and expression;
3. fostering full recognition of families constituted by LGBTI persons and the rights of LGBTI children and adolescents;
4. addressing the effects of practices aimed at modifying sexual orientation and gender identity and expression;
5. promoting and defending the rights of intersex persons, in particular intersex children and adolescents;
6. examining the social exclusion of LGBTI persons;
7. analyzing the structural causes of discrimination from the standpoint of the need for sociocultural transformations; and
8. fighting discrimination against LGBTI persons by promoting and guaranteeing their freedom of expression.
