IACHR Presents Compendium of Academic Articles on Impacts of Its Work

Washington, D.C. — The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) has launched "IACHR Impacts", a compendium of academic articles that aims to systematize, make visible, and reflect on the impact of the IACHR's actions to defend and protect human rights in the Americas.

This publication from the IACHR Observatory of Impact seeks to generate specialized knowledge of the compliance, impact, and transformation that come about from the work of the IACHR. It also aims to start and promote dialogues and exchanges on these issues among stakeholders in the Inter-American System of Human Rights (IASHR).

"IACHR Impacts" is a compendium of articles obtained in response to the IACHR' call for academic papers analyzing the impact of its work and resolutions. Some 27 articles on the matter were received. These were submitted by teachers, students, and researchers, and by people without formal ties to academic establishments and officials from States and international organizations who had published academic studies on the matter.

The IACHR wishes to thank those who took part for their interest in this initiative and efforts to contribute to it. It also invites the general public to get involved in future calls for submissions and collaborative spaces organized by the Observatory of Impact to reflect on, systematize, make visible, and conduct a methodological evaluation of the IACHR's impact defending and protecting human rights in the Americas.

A principal, autonomous body of the Organization of American States (OAS), the IACHR derives its mandate from the OAS Charter and the American Convention on Human Rights. The Inter-American Commission has a mandate to promote respect for and to defend human rights in the region and acts as a consultative body to the OAS in this area. The Commission is composed of seven independent members who are elected in an individual capacity by the OAS General Assembly and who do not represent their countries of origin or residence.
