Washington, DC — The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) is set to conduct its 194th Period of Sessions between November 10 and November 21, 2025. In-person public hearings are to be held over the period November 17–21 at the University of Miami (United States).
Requests for public hearings may be filed between August 1 and 11:59 pm (Washington, DC, time) on August 22. Requests for hearings are to be filed through the electronic system available in the four languages of the Organization of American States (Spanish, English, Portuguese, and French).
According to the IACHR’s Rules of Procedure, the parties whose requests for hearings have been approved will be notified at least one month before the beginning of the period of sessions. The date and location of each hearing will be posted on the IACHR website up to 10 days ahead of the start of the 194th Period of Sessions.
A principal, autonomous body of the Organization of American States (OAS), the IACHR derives its mandate from the OAS Charter and the American Convention on Human Rights. The Inter-American Commission has a mandate to promote respect for and to defend human rights in the region and acts as a consultative body to the OAS in this area. The Commission is composed of seven independent members who are elected in an individual capacity by the OAS General Assembly and who do not represent their countries of origin or residence.
