The OAS and Spain Renew Alliance to Fund Organization Programs

Spain will contribute 2 million euros to programs of the Organization of American States (OAS) in 2026, according to the Memorandum of Understanding signed today between the hemispheric Organization and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) in Seville, Spain.
The Director of AECID, Antón Leis, recalled that 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of the launching of the Spanish Fund for the OAS, the mechanism through which Spain regularly contributes to the Organization. He noted that the anniversary “represents a valuable opportunity to highlight the importance of our cooperation and the results we have achieved over the years for the benefit of the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean.” He added, “We hope to continue strengthening our collaboration through a long-term alliance that ensures the sustainability of our joint efforts. We deeply value the strong partnership between the OAS and Spain to advance our shared priorities in the areas of democracy, human rights, multidimensional security, and development.”
For his part, the Secretary General of the OAS, Albert Ramdin, stated that this contribution “once again confirms that Spain is a solid partner for the OAS and, in general, for the Americas. Our collaboration is based on values and principles shared by both Spain and the OAS, and a firm belief that democracy, human rights, development, and security are the foundations on which we must continue to work in the present and build the future.”
Spain’s voluntary contribution will be used to strengthen the OAS's efforts to promote and protect democracy, support the Inter-American Human Rights System and women’s leadership, and advance peace initiatives throughout the region.
The signing took place in the context of the 4th United Nations International Conference on Financing for Development, held in Seville.
