The new Permanent Representative of the United States to the Organization of American States (OAS), Leandro Rizzuto Jr., presented his credentials today to Secretary General Albert R. Ramdin during a ceremony held at the Organization's headquarters in Washington, DC.
In his speech, Ambassador Rizzuto said that “Under President Trump's policy of results-driven partnerships, the United States views the Organization of American States as a platform for cooperation that supports prosperity, security, and sovereignty across the Americas.” He emphasized that his country supports “efforts to make this institution more efficient, transparent, and accountable, ensuring that its resources are tied to performance and focused on core mandates, credible election observations, institutional strengthening, and target assistance to nations in crisis.”
For his part, Secretary General Ramdin said that “The United States has helped shape the values and principles that define our hemispheric agenda. Its voice, leadership, and partnership have been vital to advancing democracy, strengthening institutions and responding to the challenges that test the resilience of our society.” He added that “the partnership of the United States has been central to advancing the values that unite us as a community of the Americas—building an inter-American system founded on cooperation, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to peace, democracy, human rights, security, and development.”
Ambassador Rizzuto is a businessman, philanthropist, and former U.S. Consul General in Bermuda.
