The new Permanent Representative of Belize to the Organization of American States (OAS), Nestor Mendez, presented his credentials today to Secretary General Albert R. Ramdin during a ceremony held at the Organization's headquarters in Washington, DC.
In his speech, the Ambassador Mendez said, “As I resume this role representing my country, I do so not only with institutional familiarity, but with renewed conviction that the OAS remains an indispensable instrument for peace, for dialogue and development in our Hemisphere. I assume these responsibilities with humility, gratitude and a deep sense of purpose.” Ambassador Mendez said his country’s belief in the OAS “as a cornerstone of the Inter-American System is as steadfast today as it was at the time when we joined the Organization more than three decades ago.”
For his part, Secretary Ramdin said that “It is truly a pleasure to receive the former Assistant Secretary General once again now in his capacity as Permanent Representative of Belize to the OAS. As we welcome him back it is fitting to recall the spirit of constructive engagement he brought to this house of the Americas throughout his tenure.”
Ambassador Mendez served as Assistant Secretary General to the Organization between 2015-2025. It is the second time that he has served as representative of his country to the OAS.
