Washington, D.C. – The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) is set to hold its 184th Regular Period of Sessions on June 13–24, 2022. This period of sessions will be hybrid, with some meetings held in person and some remotely, to reflect the IACHR's mandates and role given the public health problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in the Americas.

Public hearings for this period of sessions are set to take place on June 21–24, 2022. From March 30, 2022, the IACHR welcomes requests for public hearings referring to all Member States of the Organization of American States (OAS). Requests can be made on the electronic system that is available to that end in the IACHR's four official languages: SpanishEnglishPortuguese and French. This platform will remain open until April 20, 2022, at 11:59 pm (Washington, D.C. time).

Decisions concerning approved requests will be announced up to one month before the relevant hearings. The hearings schedule will be posted on the IACHR website up to 10 days ahead of the start of this period of sessions.

A principal, autonomous body of the Organization of American States (OAS), the IACHR derives its mandate from the OAS Charter and the American Convention on Human Rights. The Inter-American Commission has a mandate to promote respect for and to defend human rights in the region and acts as a consultative body to the OAS in this area. The Commission is composed of seven independent members who are elected in an individual capacity by the OAS General Assembly and who do not represent their countries of origin or residence.
