Washington, D.C. - The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) will hold three sessions in 2018, in addition to the period celebrated in Bogotá from February 22 to March 2nd.
The 168 Period of Sessions will take place from May 3 to 11, 2018 in the Dominican Republic, at the invitation of the State of that country. The system to request hearings and working meetings for these sessions closed on March 9.
The 169 Period of Sessions will take place from September 27 to October 5, 2018, in a location to be determined. The system to request hearings and working meetings for these sessions will be available from June 28 to July 12, 2018.
The 170 Period of Sessions will take place from December 1 to 7, 2018, in a location to be determined. The system to request hearings and working meetings for these sessions will be available from August 30 to September 13, 2018.
The system will be available in the four official languages of the OAS, on the IACHR website.
A principal, autonomous body of the Organization of American States (OAS), the IACHR derives its mandate from the OAS Charter and the American Convention on Human Rights. The Inter-American Commission has a mandate to promote respect for and to defend human rights in the region and acts as a consultative body to the OAS in this area. The Commission is composed of seven independent members who are elected in an individual capacity by the OAS General Assembly and who do not represent their countries of origin or residence.
