Santo Domingo - The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) has decided to conduct its 169 period of sessions in the United States, by invitation of the Faculty of Law of the University of Colorado, in Boulder, from September 29 to October 5.
The system to request hearings and working meetings for these sessions will be available from June 28 until July 12, 2018 and can refer to the human rights situation of all countries in America. According to Article 68 of the Rules of Procedure of the Commission, the hearings are public and all interested can participate, without prior registration.
A principal, autonomous body of the Organization of American States (OAS), the IACHR derives its mandate from the OAS Charter and the American Convention on Human Rights. The Inter-American Commission has a mandate to promote respect for and to defend human rights in the region and acts as a consultative body to the OAS in this area. The Commission is composed of seven independent members who are elected in an individual capacity by the OAS General Assembly and who do not represent their countries of origin or residence.
