The Mission to support the fight against Corruption and Impunity in Honduras (MACCIH by its acronym in Spanish) is a hemispheric approach of the OAS that includes transparency, accountability and punishment to offenders, in order to promote essential values of the democratic system.

Conflict Analysis Training – EU/OAS
Within the framework of the Global Crisis Response Support Programme, one training on conflict analysis took place between 2-6 May at the facilities of the OAS. During the event, participants gained practical tools for conflict analysis, taking into account the different scenarios or dynamics that can arise during the process.

MACCIH presentation to members of the Civil Society
On May 2, 2016 at the premises of the OAS in Washington D.C., a meeting with members of Civil Society was held by the Secretary for Strengthening Democracy, Francisco Guerrero; the Director of the Department of Democratic Sustainability and Special Missions, Steven Griner; and the special representative and spokesman MACCIH, Juan Jimenez. During the meeting, the objectives of the mission, its priorities, and the current context of Honduras were discussed.

The OAS continues to support the Peace Process in Colombia
The Secretary General and President Santos agreed on the need to broaden and strengthen the work of the OAS in the peace process. Santos highlighted the work that the MAPP / OAS does in the field, as an important input to take decisions.

The Government of Belize pays Tribute to Ambassador Raul Lago
On March 23, 2016, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belize, Foreign Minister Wilfred Elrington paid tribute to the outgoing OAS Secretary General's Representative for Belize-Guatemala Affairs and highlighted his distinguished career as a diplomat and mediator of the dispute. He further stressed Ambassador Lago's invaluable contributions to the process and thanked him on behalf of the government and people of Belize for having served with distinction, objectivity and the utmost professionalism and efficiency.

On March 15, 2016, OAS Headquarters, Washington, D.C.The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Belize and Guatemala, together with the Chief of the OAS Peace Fund, addressed the members of the Group of Friends of Belize and Guatemala, as well as other representatives of the international community and made an impassioned plea to the pool of donors to help maintain the OAS Office in the Adjacency Zone. The Parties spoke about the crucial role that the OAS Office in the Adjacency Zone plays to maintain peace on the ground, ease tensions and thus facilitate the ongoing political dialogue.

The ministers also addressed the need to avoid incidents and tensions between the two countries, as well as to continue to strengthen the bilateral relationship.

MAPP / OEA helps prevent risks for demobilized people in Colombia
Having in mind that the safety of the demobilized is one of the main challenges for the post-conflict, the MAPP / OAS organized a series of regional forums to strengthen the capacities of local authorities in this regard.

Technical Meetings of the Belize-Guatemala Joint Commission
On February 25, 2016, more than eighty delegates from Belize and Guatemala gathered at the OAS Office in the AZ to examine three of the thirteen bilateral agreements adopted in Placencia, Belize in 2014. Specifically, the working groups examined the “Agreement on the Harmonization of Operating Hours at Legal Entry Points;” “the Agreement for Sustainable Tourism” and the “Agreement for the Protection of the Environment.”

MAPP / OAS participates in the National Monitoring Committee on Organized Crime
The committee seeks to focus its efforts on fighting organized crime and on peacebuilding. It is led by the President, and involves ministers, senior military and police officers, prosecutors and the MAPP / OAS in the only international organization involved.

Risk Analysis and Risk Management training- EU/OAS
In the framework of the Global Crisis Response Support Programme, a risk analysis training took place from January 25th to 29th at the premises of the OAS. During the event, the participants acquired the necessary tools to identify, assess and control the potential risks that may arise in the implementation of diverse policies.

On January 22, 2016, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Belize and Guatemala along with the Special Representative of the OAS SG met at the Office of the OAS in the Adjacency Zone (AZ) on Friday, January 22, 2016 to discuss the status of the bilateral agenda and reactivate the Belize – Guatemala Joint Commission as established under the Framework Agreement on Confidence Building Measures of 2005.
