Strengthening of Institutional Capacities to Combat Trafficking in Persons

Human Trafficking is a violation of human rights and an expanding criminal activity in the Western Hemisphere. Human Trafficking generally implies the exploitation of victims in forced labour, often in manual or sexual activities.

General Objective:

Increase awareness and support migration and law enforcement agencies, judges and prosecutors in the Central American Region in the fight against trafficking in persons.

General Outcomes:

• Increased awareness of the crime of Trafficking in Persons (TIP) among migration and law enforcement officials, judges and prosecutors.
• Deeper understanding of the most vulnerable populations for becoming TIP victims, such as women and children.
• Strengthened capacity of judges and prosecutors, law enforcement and migration officials to combat TIP.
• Enhanced participation in anti-TIP information sharing between migration and law enforcement officials, judges and prosecutors.

This Project is part of the Inter-American Program for the Promotion and Protection of the Human Rights of Migrants and their Families, administered within the framework of the Migration and Development Program. This project is funded by the Canadian International Development Agency and is executed by the Department of Public Security in the Executive Secretariat for Multidimensional Security.
