XIV Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labor (IACML) of the OAS

Place and Date: Mexico City , September 26 and 27, 2005

Location: Convention Center at the Hotel Sheraton Centro Histórico (Historic Center)

The overarching theme of the meeting was “People and their work at the heart of globalization” and it focused on three substantive topics:

• People and their work at the heart of economies, State policies and globalization
• Social dialogue as a tool to confront the social and labor effects of globalization
• Social and labor effects of public policies on employment and the fight against poverty.

The Declaration and Plan of Action of Mexico approved by the Ministers during the XIV IACML, were submitted to our Heads of State and Government at the Fourth Summit of the Americas, held in Mar del Plata, Argentina, in November 2005, under the theme “Creating jobs to fight poverty and strengthen democratic governance”
