Module 2: Promote the common good

module 2

This module focuses on how youth participation, ethics, and cooperation are essential pillars for building fair and democratic communities. Schools play a key role in educating young people who act responsibly, empathetically, and committed to the common good.

In this regard, the Inter-American Democratic Charter (OAS, 2001) establishes:
Article 6: "It is the right and responsibility of all citizens to participate in decisions relating to their own development. This is also a necessary condition for the full and effective exercise of democracy. Promoting and fostering diverse forms of participation strengthens democracy."

Article 27: "Special attention shall be given to the development of programs and activities for the education of children and youth as a means of ensuring the continuance of democratic values, including liberty and social justice.

To address this topic, we propose the following activities:
  • 1. Read the document for Module 2: Promote the common good and review its infographic.
    • 2. Post your reflections on Wall 3: Participation and the Common Good. Consider the following questions:

      • How do your institution's projects contribute to the common good rather than just individual achievement?
      • What strategies strengthen ethics and responsibility in youth education?
      • How do you promote cooperation among students, teachers, and the community to solve common problems?
    • Include your name, country, city, or community for context. Feel free to comment on colleagues' posts respectfully and constructively.
